What are they saying?

England fast bowler Jofra Archer, after making his World Cup debut with an excellent performance:

“Honestly it was a great atmosphere. Everyone exploded when my name was announced and it’s a great feeling. It gave me that little bit extra. My bouncer is a wicket-taking ball and a dot ball so I’d be stupid not to use it.”

England captain Eoin Morgan on Archer’s performance:

“Jofra Archer bowled fast and accurate on a slow pitch – it was outstanding from a young guy. He’s taking everything in his stride. It’s very exciting.”

What are the odds?

  • England 3/10
  • Pakistan 13/5

What is our prediction?

Having beaten Pakistan 4-0 in their most recent ODI series all of the smart money is on England. Pakistan were by no means terrible but everything points towards victory for the hosts, especially as they didn’t really get going with the bat against South Africa in their opening game. They still scored over 300, though. Trent Bridge, too has been a batsman’s paradise and a bowler’s graveyard. England have amassed scores as large as 444 (against Pakistan, 2016) and 481 (Australia, 2018) in the last few years there and also chased down 340 to beat Pakistan in the 4th ODI earlier this year.
