Top Pakistani Mountaineers visited Russia for Joint ‘Friendship-2017’ Military Exercise

This is a major step in the development of closed military relationships between these two states who had been rivals for more than half century.

The Pakistani and Russian militaries carried out “Friendship-2017” joint exercises during September, 2017. A combined 200 soldiers – from Pakistan, and Russia’s Southern Military District motorized rifle brigade –participated in the September2017 exercises.

Russian and Pakistani servicemen conducted their first joint military exercises in 2016 in which more than 40 soldiers from both countries participated in mountain training exercises and this Friendship-2017 is the second exercise together. This is a major step in the development of closed military relationships between these two states who had been rivals for more than half century.

 

Pakistan has about 720 peaks above 6,000 meters – including 162 peaks above 7,000 meters and five above 8,000 meters – according to the Pakistan Sports Board.
